Grow2Brew: building tomorrow’s malting barley chain in Flanders

At Damagro, we put applied research first.
We participate in the Grow2Brew project with our biostimulant, because we believe in evidence-based solutions that make farming more resilient and sustainable in practice.

Grow2Brew: building tomorrow’s malting barley chain in Flanders

Grow2Brew is a VLAIO-supported research programme that takes a whole-chain view of locally grown malting barley in Flanders.

The consortium is optimising each step — from variety choice, nitrogen management and soil suitability to harvest, storage and the quality specifications required by maltsters and brewers.

Key topics include protein content, growth regulation and the prevention of gushing (unwanted over-foaming in beer). Within this framework, the partners are also assessing the role of biostimulants as part of innovative nutrition strategies, with our product included in the trials.

We meet regularly to review interim results and align next steps; in mid-May the partners gathered in Lennik for a field visit to the trial plots and a technical discussion on first observations.

Early signals are encouraging.

Despite an exceptionally dry spring this year, the crops are performing notably well across sites — a useful contrast with the wet spring of 2024. The comparison underlines why multi-year field data are essential for robust agronomic insights.
